On July 12, 2024, the long‑anticipated "Inaugural Conference of the Guangzhou Synthetic Biology Industry-Academia-Research Technology Innovation Alliance and Synthetic Biology Forum" was held at Guangzhou Window, located on the scenic Pearl River waterway. The theme of the conference was "Synthetic Innovation – The Future Is Here." The event was attended by relevant officials from the Guangzhou Municipal Science and Technology Bureau, the Guangzhou Municipal Industry and Information Technology Bureau, the Guangzhou Association for Science and Technology, the Haizhu District People's Government, the Nansha District People's Government, and the Guangzhou Productivity Promotion Center. Canton Biologics, as a founding council member, attended the conference and received its council certificate.

Canton Biologics officially joined the Guangzhou Synthetic Biology Industry-Academia-Research Technology Innovation Alliance (right, first) as a founding council member.

The Guangzhou Synthetic Biology Industry-Academia-Research Technology Innovation Alliance (hereinafter referred to as "GZ‑SIA") was established under the guidance and support of the Guangzhou Municipal Science and Technology Bureau. It was jointly initiated by 13 enterprises, institutions, and related organizations actively engaged in the synthetic biology industry, and was officially approved by the Guangzhou Municipal Science and Technology Bureau on May 21, 2024.

GZ‑SIA has now brought together more than 80 local synthetic biology scholars and industry experts in Guangzhou. The alliance aims to build a new synthetic biology resource interaction platform for exchanges among government, enterprises, institutes, and universities, promote the five‑in‑one joint innovation of government, industry, academia, research, and application, and support the development of the synthetic biology industry in Guangzhou.

Inaugural Conference

At the inaugural conference, Chen Yu, Deputy District Mayor of Haizhu District, Guangzhou, delivered a warm speech.

Wu Hanrong, Deputy Director of the Guangzhou Municipal Science and Technology Bureau, presented certificates to the founding council members.

Zhang Hongwei, Deputy Director of the Guangzhou Municipal Industry and Information Technology Bureau, presented appointment letters to the members of the first Expert Committee.

Professor Liu Jianzhong, the newly appointed Chairman of the Alliance, delivered a speech.

In his address, Professor Liu outlined the global landscape of synthetic biology development, noting that synthetic biology is a core competitive area in the development of the biotechnology industry. He discussed that Guangzhou, as a major national central city, is fully capable of establishing a strong position in the current synthetic biology industry competition and has the potential to become a hub for the synthetic biology industry in the Guangdong‑Hong Kong‑Macao Greater Bay Area. Universities and research institutions in Guangzhou that have already established a presence in synthetic biology – including Sun Yat‑sen University, South China University of Technology, Jinan University, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou), and South China Agricultural University – together with emerging biotechnology companies such as Taichuang Bio, Muyuan Bio, Jida Meisu, Nanxin Bio, Marubi Bio, and Shaohe Bio, have promoted the establishment of the alliance, sounding the clarion call for the development of Guangzhou's synthetic biology future industry.
